When working with high school and college students it only seems natural that you should have a Facebook page of your own. I must admit I seldom post what I'm up to but I do get regular friend request and invites from the kids. Sometimes it's kind of cool to be able to "listen in" to the conversations on the wall. Just the other day, I was sharing with my colleagues that I thought the conversation our seniors were having has changed. I'm beginning to see more and more comments about college, grades and exams. It really stands out considering in this city more than half of the kids will never graduate from high school and less then five percent will complete college. UrbanTrekkers is giving our students a lot to talk about...
We have many exciting and challenging adventures planned for our Trekkers in 2010. For this year's spring break expedition we travel to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This year will also see several kayak trips along the Barnegat Bay, Assateague Island and Coastal Maine. Our seniors will have a Rite of Passage to the Adirondack Mountains of New York with a 24 hour solo camping experience on the islands of Saranac Lake. We continue to grow the Urban BoatWorks thanks to an amazing group of kids, and guys who oversee the work. We are on schedule to complete two 15' wooden sail boats that students will launch and sail on the Cooper River this spring.
With your support UrbanTrekkers is able to help students see a world with possibilities beyond their everyday horizons. We are helping to change the conversation, won't you join us and make a gift today.
