Paddle for Promise

July 6th and 7th, 2018

Join us for a paddle on the river!

Due to the forecasted thunder storms Friday morning, we need to cancel the Friday portion of the Paddle for Promise.  Unfortunately, there is no rain date for the event.  Any participants signed up to paddle on Friday will not be paddling this year.  We are disappointed that this is the reality, but cannot control the thunder storms! Please check your email for further details and information.

This year, we're paddling so that UrbanPromise can reach thousands of children and youth through high impact programming throughout the year!

With your support, we will:

-engage over 50 Camden residents in on the water recreation through five RiverGuides hired for summer employment through funding from the William Penn Foundation

-provide boatbuilding programming for 120+ middle and high school students throughout the year

-lead experiential learning programs and expeditions for 100+ teens throughout the year

-provide environmental and watershed education for Camden youth and the community throughout the year through water quality testing, educational excursions, hands-on learning and on-the-water adventures

Paddle for Promise is a 58-mile paddling trip down the Delaware River from Trenton, NJ to Wilmington, DE. Paddle for Promise will include 50+ volunteer paddlers making the trip on six 45-foot OC6 outrigger canoes over two days. Founders Bruce Main and Jim Cummings will be joined by the executive directors from Wilmington and Trenton to paddle alongside volunteers and staff to raise funds.

Day 1:

Launch from Ross Marine (Trenton) at 8:00 AM

Arrive at Wiggins Marina (Camden) at 1:30 PM

Day 2:

Launch from Wiggins Marina at 8:45 AM

Arrive at Wilmington Youth Rowing Association (Wilmington) at 2:30 PM

We're looking for paddlers who would be willing to join our boat and we hope that you're up for the adventure. You have the option to paddle for either one or both days-no prior experience necessary! There is a registration fee of $100/paddler and we ask each paddler to raise a minimum of $500--ask your friends, family, or church to support you in your trek down the Delaware River!

UrbanPromise will provide all logistical support and transport of paddlers to and from the launching and take out sites.  Paddlers must be able to: swim well, be comfortable on the water, paddle in hour-long shifts with no breaks ask a moderate quick pace, and be able to climb in and out of the boats when switching paddlers. People with range of motion limitations or lasting injuries (ex. bad back) should not participate.  All paddlers can leave their cars at UrbanPromise in Camden and then take the bus to the launch site.
